
How to Pick the Right Infrared Lamp for Your Bathroom
Let’s be honest: nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. That’s where infrared (IR) lamps come in. But here is the thing—you can’t just grab any lamp and hope for the best. You need the right amount of power for your specific space. We use short-wave IR because it doesn’t bother trying to heat up the air (which just disappears the moment you turn on the exhaust fan). Instead, it warms you and your surroundings directly. It feels like stepping into a beam of sunlight.
Getting the Power Right
You don’t want a “one size fits all” approach here. If you put a massive 1000W lamp in a tiny powder room, you’re going to bake yourself and waste a ton of electricity. For those small spaces (under 4m²), a 400W to 600W lamp is usually plenty. If you’ve got a medium-sized bathroom (5-8m²), look at something in the 800W to 1200W range. And for the big master baths—especially the ones with high ceilings—you’ll probably need 1500W or more. You might even want a few lamps spread out so there aren’t any cold corners.
A Quick Warning on Your Wiring
The higher the wattage, the faster you feel the heat. It’s instant. But there’s a catch. High-wattage lamps pull a lot of power. If you plug a 2000W lamp into a circuit that’s already handling a hair dryer or a water heater, you’re probably going to trip the breaker. It’s a pain to reset, so just make sure your wiring can actually handle the load before you flip the switch.
Setup and Survival
