
Keeping Wet Zones Warm Without the Headache
Nobody likes stepping out of a shower into a freezing locker room. It’s a shock to the system. To fix that, we use short-wave infrared. Most heaters try to warm up the air, but in a big, damp room, that takes forever. Infrared is different. It sends heat straight to the people and the surfaces. You feel it the second you walk in. No waiting around for the room to “warm up.”
The “Water vs. Electricity” Problem
Here’s the thing: steam and splashes are everywhere in these spaces. And as we all know, water and electricity are a terrible mix. That’s why we stick to an IP65 rating. In plain English? It means the unit is sealed tight. Dust can’t get in, and water jets can’t penetrate the housing. We use gaskets and compression glands to lock everything down. If you cut corners here and go with a cheaper, non-rated heater, the humidity will eat your contacts for breakfast. Your circuits will fry in a few months, and you’ll be right back where you started.
Instant Heat
The best part about short-wave lamps is that they don’t need to “warm up.” They hit their peak temperature almost instantly. We wrap the filaments in quartz glass, which lets the heater pump out a ton of heat without needing a giant, clunky machine on the ceiling. It’s fast. Really fast.
A Few Tips on Setup
Placement is everything. Mounting these overhead gives you the best reach, but you have to be smart about it. High-wattage lamps gethot. Like, really hot. Make sure your wiring can actually handle the current draw, and check that whatever you’re mounting them to won’t melt or warp from the heat soak. And a word of caution: don’t mount them too low. You’ll end up baking the person standing directly underneath while everyone else is still shivering in the corners. We usually suggest a staggered layout. It spreads the warmth around so the whole floor feels cozy, not just a few “hot spots.”
