Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. Between the steam, the random water splashes, and the way the temperature swings from freezing to sauna-mode in five minutes, it’s a brutal place for any heating element to live. When we build infrared mirror heaters, we don’t pick our quartz tubes because they look nice. We pick them so your bathroom doesn’t become a disaster zone. The “Cold Drop” Problem Here is the thing about heat. Imagine a quartz tube running at 600°C. Now imagine a single, cold droplet of water hitting it. With standard quartz, that’s a recipe for a crash. The glass contracts too fast in one spot, it stresses out, and then—pop—it shatters. That’s why we go with explosion-proof quartz. These tubes are built differently. They have a specific thickness and a thermal makeup that lets them soak up that shock without freaking out. Even if a crack happens, the internal pressure is managed so it doesn’t just burst violently. It’s all about peace of mind. Getting the heat where it actually belongs We use high-purity synthetic quartz for these lamps. Why? Because it lets short-wave infrared radiation slide right through. Instead of the heater housing getting dangerously hot, the heat goes straight to the mirror glass or right onto you. It feels instant. You flip the switch, and you’re warm. Just a heads-up: these things pull a lot of power the second you turn them on. Make sure your wiring can handle that initial surge, or you’ll be spending your morning in the dark. A few tips on the install These are designed to be easy drop-in replacements, and they can handle the humidity just fine. But there’s a catch. The seals are usually where things go wrong. If your gasket isn’t seated perfectly tight, moisture will sneak in. Once water hits those electrical terminals, you’ll get arcing, and it won’t matter how tough the quartz tube is. Also, if you’re putting these in an older house, keep an eye on your breakers. High-wattage tubes are great for instant warmth, but they can be a bit much for old wiring. A dedicated circuit is your best bet here.
